Today at Jamie Ridler Studios, Jamie asks us what we wish to have less of. I can think of several answers to this question: things like stress and self-criticism and guilt, self-flagellation, worry, and apologies. But what I really REALLY want less of right now, the one thing that is bugging me more than all of those other (very substantial) ones…is STUFF.
I want less stuff. We are drowning in stuff. We have an entire house full of stuff, and we only just fit in this massive building. We can’t afford to heat this place, it’s so big. And it’s all STUFF. I read an article last month about someone who did a study of their belongings and how many of them get used regularly. She figured out that she used 1% of her stuff on a daily basis and something like 80% of the stuff was literally NEVER used. Like, at all. I feel like that. I want to have a giant garage sale and rid myself of all of this STUFF…like the treadmill that hasn’t been used in over a year…like the bedframe we just took apart so we could have a giant family bed (SO AWESOME)…like the fish tank that we inherited from my ex-fiance.
So…yes…less stuff, please. And, while you’re at it, less of all the other things I listed at the beginning 😛
