Want to see my altar?

Part of what I love most about moving into a new space is the way we can design that space to support us in our dreams.  When we moved into this new apartment, it was essential to me that we create a space that reminded us to connect with spirit and be aware of the sacred in every day.  So I used our assorted paraphernalia to create this altar.  It’s in the hallway that runs the length of our apartment, which means that I walk by this altar at least a dozen times a day.  Every morning I light candles at it and ask my guides to watch over me as I walk my path, and every night I leave my rings on it and thank my guides for helping me.

Here it is:

Some detail shots:

Favourite crystals, smudging apparatus (with other crystals and essential oils underneath):

My favourite Faerie Tarot card (his name is Solus) and my collection of spirit-figures (I’m a religious-buffet-er):

This section is the Relationship Altar: reminding us of our connection to each other, and also reminding us of people we have loved who have left our physical world.

A close-up of the main altar so you can see the beautiful Spirit Moves Dancer my husband drew for me (she’s my business logo as well), and the Chakra Lotus Tree (LOVE it!):

The Soul Library…all the books about energy work, self-help, dance, parenting, and new-agey goodness.

My chakra paintings.  We have a larger set of these in the bedroom too…I love them.

And that’s my favourite area of the apartment!  I hope you enjoyed the tour!

  2. Hello Meg,
Thanks you for this beautiful altar tour. Yay for you for lighting your candles every day. I rarely manage to do so for more than a couple of days in row.
I adore your chakra tree, your husbands paintung is awesome and your altar cloth is so fantastic with the little goddesses on the (at least that is what I saw).
And having a relationship altar is a fantastic idea I will try, too.

    • Thanks Cerise!

You know, I have always been the same way with lighting candles. Honestly, I would always think “I don’t want to waste the candles” and only light them like twice a year…as if candles cost hundreds of dollars *eye roll at self* It was easier to do it once I got over that…although it still feels like a little bit of a luxury (but why else did I buy the candles if not to light them?!). Sometimes, when things are extra-crazy, I don’t get around to lighting the candles for an hour or so…but it always feels good when I do it!

Yes! My cloth has little goddesses and spirals on it. I originally bought it to use with my Faerie cards…but I never really used those except to look at. Now I know why I kept it all this time! 🙂

I’m looking forward to seeing your relationship altar when you set it up (if you feel called to share, that is).

  3. Gorgeous altar! I wish I had the space for one of those. How nice to have all your stuff in the same place! Magic and spirituality is my thing in my house, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking over the hall. Oh well!

I just burn all my candles nowadays. I used to keep them fresh and pristine and beautiful, however, if you do that they fade in the sunlight anyway. I like putting candles in contrasting colour holders and watching them melt all over it for crazy colour goodness. Mmmm-mmm

    • Thanks!
I feel very blessed that Matthew is on board with this kind of thing. He doesn’t *use* the altar, but he likes having it there.
Huzzah for burning candles! I can’t believe it took me as long as it did to think “You know, I bought these to burn, not just to look at!” and to finally let them serve their purpose! 🙂
